Orange Smartstep Projects (Pty) Ltd was created by David van Tonder. David has been actively involved in the service industry since 1973. His innovative, proactive nature has led him to spearhead many projects in the service industry over the past 40+ years, and he's established himself as a preeminent figure in all facets of home and office maintenance.

By age 25 David had a lucrative plumbing company established in Alberton. Shortly afterwards, in 1976, he was directly involved in marketing and installing the first solar heating units manufactured on a large scale in South Africa, for company named Van Leer SA.

At the same time, a company named Kwikot developed their solar heating units, and David – in his capacity as MD of the newly established Sunshine Solar (Pty) Ltd, aggressively marketed the Kwikot products, winning many golden awards at the then Rand Easter shows in Johannesburg.

In addition to this, Sunshine Solar marketed products for Shell SA, including the first solar heating capabilities for swimming pools, in South Africa. We were the first company in SA to market the product ‘Solar Roll', imported from France,
